Helping the City of Paris spread the Olympic spirit

As host city for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the City of Paris sought to extend the Olympic experience beyond the official competition venues. To achieve this, the City established a network of 26 fan zones and festive sites across all its districts – open to the public and free of charge – alongside a dedicated Ville de Paris Media Centre serving accredited and non-accredited media professionals throughout the Games.

Managing access across these multiple sites required a robust registration and accreditation system capable of handling multiple distinct populations: members of the public, media, volunteers, public administration employees, and suppliers – each with different access entitlements and workflow requirements. The City also needed real-time visibility over venue capacities and catering consumption across its sites.

Solution

Wiz-Team served as technical supplier to the City of Paris, deploying its Event-Works platform and companion app EW Gate Pro across the City’s hospitality and media venues.

Event-Works was configured to manage registrations, accreditations, access control, sessions, uniform distribution, and reporting. Despite the varied requirements of each population group, the platform enabled all users to register through a single unified system, with workflows customised per category. The platform was integrated with local authority systems to facilitate background checks and vetting.

EW Gate Pro, running on Android devices, was used for:

  • Scanning accreditation badges and controlling venue access
  • Enforcing access rules (e.g., limiting artist access to designated performance days)
  • Managing real-time site usage and capacity limits, with the ability to electronically close access gates when venues reached peak occupancy
  • Supporting meal allowance management, confirming entitlements for accredited individuals at catering points

Five distinct accreditation badge layouts were configured for the City of Paris, two of which were developed on-site in response to emerging operational requirements during the Games, demonstrating the platform’s flexibility under live event conditions.

Wiz-Team staff were embedded at the City’s accreditation centre from early July, supporting accreditation printing and delivery before transitioning to remote support once the Games were underway.

Results

The deployment enabled the City of Paris to manage secure access across 26 sites throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games, serving a diverse and operationally complex mix of attendees. Real-time data from EW Gate Pro gave catering and operations teams the insight needed to manage venue flow and resource allocation dynamically, redirecting groups between canteens, for instance, when specific sites reached capacity.

The engagement also demonstrated Wiz-Team’s experience in serving public and governmental clients, where regulatory constraints and multi-layered stakeholder structures require both technical flexibility and consultative delivery. The City’s teams were progressively upskilled during the project to manage the platform with greater autonomy.
