Wiz-Team goes behind the scenes with World Rugby

As World Rugby’s Official Tournament System Supplier, Wiz-Team was in Los Angeles earlier this month to attend the final Rugby Sevens (SVNS) tournament of the 2024/2025 season. The goal was to observe first-hand the complex operations behind such a major event. Alongside a number of its clients and partners – On Location, TPT Hub and Wicket – Wiz-Team toured the venue to gain insights into Back-of-House operations while also enjoying the thrilling rugby action on display.
At the heart of event operations
The delegation visited several spaces which are key to the positive event experience of different participant groups, from hospitality spaces to athletes’ preparation areas, to the broadcasting and media centers, as well as the general operations hub.
Wiz-Team are working with World Rugby to deliver accreditations, arrivals and departures, accommodation, workforce and volunteer coordination, guest services and media operations across major tournaments. Looking ahead, Wiz-Team’s integrated solutions Event-Works will also be deeply integrated into World Rugby’s core delivery model.
“As we continue co-creating and testing our solutions with World Rugby, having the chance to observe their event processes and procedures on the ground here in LA has been incredibly valuable,” said Wiz-Team CEO Johann Woringer. “We are also grateful that we could share this unique experience with some of our key clients and partners in the region, because at the end of the day, it’s all about learning and sharing.”
Integrated approach
Last year, World Rugby entered into a multi-year partnership with Wiz-Team to support the development of its digital strategy which seeks to centralise, standardise and enhance its core tournament operations and the technology behind it.
World Rugby’s Event Delivery Business Application Manager, Jake Collard, explained at Wiz-Team’s recent Client Workshop:
“We selected Wiz-Team as our Tournament Management Provider in 2024 as they were covering almost all of our needs with one tool which is pretty unique.”
Highlighting the importance of an integrated approach, he added: “Event-Works modules serve many essential functions of event management. We were also going for a holistic approach in terms of events diversity, looking for a solution that can cover all our tournaments of different sizes, Rugby World Cups, SVNS, WXV and U20s Championship, as well as our institutional events.”
Pushing boundaries
World Rugby is also one of Wiz-Team’s first clients to use select modules of Evo – the next generation of Event-Works – which Collard praised as a more user-friendly experience thanks to its cleaner structure and improved interface. The transition has been smooth so far, and Collard is now looking forward to seeing the system in action on the ground, starting with World Rugby’s major event this summer in England, where Wiz-Team will be providing on-site support. Exciting times ahead!
