Technology, Process, People: Inside Wiz-Team's Operational Role at Glasgow 2026
Supporting a complex multi-sport event across four venues
Nearly a month after the curtain fell on the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, held from 23 July to 2 August, Wiz-Team is looking back on its contribution as the provider of the Games Management Systems.
Glasgow 2026 reimagined the playbook for multi-sport games, organised in only 21 months and staged across four competition venues. Leading up to and throughout the Games, Wiz-Team’s all-in-one event management platform, Event-Works, as well as experienced staff, supported organisers in managing a wide range of critical operational processes.
Over 11 days of competition, 3,000 world-class athletes from 74 nations and territories competed across 10 sports, contesting 215 medal events and 1,168 medals.
Wiz-Team’s accreditation and access control solution supported the safe movements of more than 23,000 people across four venues and operational areas, including athletes, team officials, paid staff, volunteers, contractors, special guests and other stakeholder groups. The sheer scale and complexity of the operation required secure, efficient and reliable management of access to venues and restricted operational areas throughout the Games.
As the provider of the Games Management System, Wiz-Team supported a broad range of Games operations, including:
- Accreditation: Providing the systems to support applications, approvals, distribution and management of all accreditations during the games.
- Workforce Management and Entitlements: Supporting the application, selection process, and rostering of about 4,000 volunteers (out of almost 37,000 applications) and almost 1,000 staff members, from registration and selection through to training, shift planning and uniform distribution.
- Electronic Access Control: Enabling the electronic scanning and real-time validation of accreditation cards at all entry points to venues. Ensuring that only currently accredited persons were able to gain access.
- Sport Entries and Qualifications: Managing the entries of around 3,000 athletes and integrating athlete data from various sources for provision to results providers through the Olympic Data Feed protocol. This ensured that competition information was managed throughout the entries process and distributed accurately across the relevant results systems.
- Arrivals and Departures: Helping over 5000 participants travel to and from Glasgow through well organised transport operations.
- Technical Officials Management: Managing data for 601Technical Officials throughout their entire Games journey, from selection and accreditation to uniform sizing, arrivals and departures.
- Guest Management: Supporting the delivery of Games experiences for Glasgow 2026 guests.
- Medal Presenter Selection: Helping ensure that each medal ceremony had the appropriate medal presenters in place.
- Integrations with National Authorities and other systems: Delivering integrations to support background-check processes, as well as providing IT services across multiple operational use cases.
The magic mix: innovative technology and passionate professionals
Wiz-Team’s strength lies in combining innovative technology with robust processes and the hands-on expertise of passionate event professionals. In Glasgow, this played out both in the lead-up to and during the Games – remotely and on site – with Wiz-Team experts seconded into senior operational roles within the local Organising Committee.

Sharing knowledge and providing first-hand event experience to clients
During the Games, Wiz-Team also hosted and participated in several business development and networking events, including an Observer Tour for existing and prospective clients. The tour gave participants the opportunity to see Wiz-Team’s solutions in action, gain exclusive insights into the Glasgow 2026 experience, and learn directly from organisers about working with Wiz-Team and how Event-Works supported the delivery of a major international multi-sport event.
For Wiz-Team, Glasgow 2026 was not only an opportunity to provide technology and operational expertise – it was also an opportunity to share knowledge, exchange experience and demonstrate how the right combination of technology and people can help deliver complex events successfully.
